Production reflection

What was the genre you were given?

What did you decide to include in your film that would fit in with the genre conventions?

What programme did you use to complete your task? Any new tools learnt?

How did you distribute the tasks?

What were the biggest obstacles to completing your task? What problems did you encounter and how did you overcome them?

Describe your production, what went well? The successes and the final piece.

What was your initial feedback? What did others say about your production?

Identify what went well and with hindsight what will you do differently in your final production?

Preliminary filming and editing task

In your groups over the next two weeks you will need to complete your preliminary task this will include:
  • A brief production diary of the process of who did what and screen shots of group and locations and schedule
  • Genre conventions to be included in the plan
  • Task idea, title and script, any music?
  • Mise en Scene - think about costumes, locations
  • Storyboard
  • Shooting schedule
The minimum amount of shots you must include are:
  • match on action
  • shot/reverse shot - conversation
  • 180 degree rule
  • an establishing shot
  • at least two close ups of the characters
  • tracking shot
  • high angle shot
  • Point of view shot
When these are approved by your teacher you will then sign out a camera. When your final draft is complete we will peer assess and the evaluation will be uploaded also.

GBHS Student opening films

Here are some previous film openings made by GBHS students in year 12. After we watch each one write the name of the clip and identify the genre, why do you think it fits the genre conventions? What went well and even better if.

And here are some more from other schools to give you inspiration:

Practical tasks

Write a new post reflecting on your practical skills as we'll be doing a lot of these in preparation of your NEAs. Add the label reflection.

1) How did you plan your sequence?

2) Who was in your group?

3) How did you assign the roles? Who did what?

4) What did you learn about sound/camerawork?

5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?

6) You were asked to film the shots as closely to the original as possible bearing in mind shot size, pace, silences and lengths of shots. How successful was your filming sequence? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?

7) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your screenplay/film sequence do you think?

6) What areas of NEA production are your strengths and weaknesses ?
